Fractional & Interim CTO/CIO — FAQ
A fractional CTO/CIO is an experienced technology executive who works for your company part-time on an ongoing basis — leading strategy, architecture, delivery and team — instead of being a full-time hire. You get board-grade leadership scaled to what you actually need.
When you need senior technology direction — a roadmap, an AI or modernisation programme, due diligence, or leadership for an existing team — but the role doesn't yet justify a full-time executive, or you need proven seniority faster than a permanent hire allows.
Typically a retained, part-time arrangement scoped to your needs — a set number of days per month, with clear objectives and a defined cadence. Engagements flex up for an interim or transformation phase and down to steady-state advisory once the platform is stable.
Interim is usually full-time leadership for a defined period (often 3–9 months) to cover a gap or lead a programme. Fractional is part-time, ongoing capacity. I take both, and engagements often start interim and step down to fractional.
